Did you know?

- Enough solar energy strikes the earth every hour to satisfy energy demands for the entire planet for a year?

- The highest temperatures on earth have been obtained by concentrating solar energy?

- Solar-electric (PV) systems will pay for themselves at least 3 times over?

- Solar hot water systems can provide decades of free water heated by the sun?

We currently offer complete solar systems to provide for:

  • Solar-electric (PV) - power your house, farm, water pump, business,...
  • Hot water (process heat, water heating, space heating)
  • Radiant floor heating
  • Pool heating

Solar-electric (photovoltaic or PV) generate clean, sustainable electricity directly from the sun's rays using cutting-edge electronics and materials technology.  This electricity is converted to a form that precisely matches the electricity provided by your current utility.  All the energy that you produce from your solar plant will replace energy you would have to buy from your utility!

Photovoltaic technology is among the most exciting green, renewable technology available. As energy prices increase, more and more families and businesses have recognized the need for a more sustainable energy source. In response to this growing recognition, Solar energy demand has grown by 20-25% per year for the last 20 years, and the cost has been dropping! This decline is the result of several factors:

a) increasing efficiency of solar cells,

b) improvements in manufacturing technology, and

c) economies of scale.

Typical turn-key grid-tie installations currently cost approximately $3.00-5.00 per watt DC, before rebates, incentives and credits which will cut the installed costs significantly - up to 100%!  Residential PV systems typically are 2000W - 11,000W in DC power rating. Commercial photovoltaic systems range anywhere from 2000W to utility-scale megawatt Solar farms. Again, the Federal government allows a 30% tax credit for eligible solar systems. Some states have an RPS, Renewable Portfolio Standard (Virginia has an RPS Goal).  An RPS will generally be a catalyst for a REC (reneable energy credit) market.  RECs can ba extremely valuable!  If you are in a region with an RPS, call today!  For these reasons, solar has become affordable for many residential customers and a very good financial decision for most businesses.

Because every house is different and every person's needs are different, we believe in designing each system for our customer's specific needs. You will not see any "kits" on our web site!  We will work with you to design a photovoltaic system that meets your needs for the lowest possible cost. Below are several of our trusted brands:

SMA inverters - SMA is the largest manufacturer of solar inverters in the world.  Their inverters are reliable, attractive, efficient, and tough.

SolarWorld - the largest manufacturer of solar modules in the US.  These modules are arguably the best in the industry.

Sharp Solar - largest distributor of solar modules in the US.  We have installed tons of these and they always perform well.

UniRac mounting solutions - the industry standard for traditional mounting.  SolarMount is very strong, flexible, and works for virtually all installations.

MageSolar - these modules are efficient, very strong, have the best warranty in the industry, and the highest power tolerances.  We like them.

Others inverter and charge controller brands we have installed:

PVP

Selectria

Fronius

Xantrex

Morningstar

GE

Other solar module manufacturers we have installed:
Kyocera

Evergreen

BP

PowerUp

UniSolar (thin film)

Kaneka

Mitsubishi

Ninghbo

If you have a preference in solar modules, mounting, or inverters, ask us about it.  Chances are we have experience with them!  We will work with you to design the system you want for your home or business.
How much savings can I expect from my PV system?  Here is a good formula for determining the output of your solar array:

DC watts x 80% overall efficiency factor (inverter, wire losses, module mismatch, deviations from STC, etc.) = AC output.
AC output x insolation (expect 4.00 - 4.6 hours per day annual average) = Watt-hours generated per day. (Wh / 1000 = kWh.)

For example, you can expect a 5250W DC PV system to produce this much power:
5250W x 4.50 hrs / 1000 = 23.63 kWh DC per day
24.93 kWh DC x 80% = 18.90 kWh AC per day
X 365 days per year = 6903 kWh AC per year
/ 12 = 575 kWh AC per month.  You can determine your savings by simply mulitplying your kWh x $/kWh.

In fact, our systems routinely perform 5-10% better than teh industry standard!
Check your electric bill to see how much of your bill we can offset.

Renewable Energy Solutions, Inc. continues to be a leader in customer service and we pride ourselves in our full one-year warranty, individual personal attention, and responsiveness. With our solar roots extending back nearly 30 years and an impeccable reputation for service and quality construction that withstands all that Virginia's weather has to offer, we are the ideal company to turn to for all your solar needs.

Periodically, we offer free on-going solar education classes. Call us to find one that fits your schedule!

We can provide water for businesses and farms at virtually any temperature to drive many different industrial processes.  Concentrating solar power can be used to make steam, for drying processes, heating and cooling, or even to run turbines.

Solar heating systems are composed of solar thermal collectors, a fluid system to move the heat from the collector to its point of usage. The system may use electricity for pumping the fluid, and have a reservoir or tank for heat storage and subsequent use. The systems may be used to heat water for a wide variety of uses, including home, business and industrial uses. Heating swimming pools, underfloor heating or energy input for space heating or cooling are more specific examples.

A solar heating system can provide up to 100% of domestic hot water energy. This can include domestic non-electric concentrating solar thermal systems.

Residential solar thermal installations can be subdivided into two kinds of systems: compact and pumped systems. Both typically include an auxiliary energy source (electric heating element or connection to a gas or fuel oil central heating system) that is activated when the water in the tank falls below a minimum temperature setting such as 50 °C. Hence, hot water is always available.
